Mistakes Founders Make at Board Meetings

Provide Context! - Rainbow Spongbob | Make a Meme

Despite what an investor says in the dating phase – they have yet to learn what it is like to be in your shoes. They aren’t talking to your customers or working with your team. So it cheapens your experience to say they have “been there and done that.”

The only thing an investor has to understand the state of your business is your board deck and your budget/actuals. This is minimal information despite how detailed and skilled you are at making board packages. They don’t see the day-to-day shifts in the business- or the level of confidence you have when conversing with your customers on your product.

That is why providing as much context to your presentation materials as possible is essential. The only way you can do that is with storytelling and confidence. Your investors want to know that you have a handle on your business. Context is the best way to do that.
