Holiday Weekend, Missed Predictions, and Caloric Surpluses

Hello everyone – I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. I feel particularly puffy from calorie access, and I am sure my body is furious at me for my gluten intake as I feel achy all over. I recently discovered I have Hashimotos, which makes gluten a no-no. It sucks getting older. Onward.

I took my oldest, Sophia, to New Orleans to celebrate a family baptism in which I was the godfather. It was so great seeing Sophia playing with her little cousin and me being able to show her the home that I grew up in. There is something extraordinary about traveling and spending 1-1 time with your kid. So now we are back in the herd and are ready to grab a Christmas tree today.

On the work front, we have a promising opportunity. We still need a term sheet signed, but we feel very hopeful. If this investment closes, it will be my first portfolio company in which I used “thematic investing” sourcing. I’ll go into detail if we close it.

As we round out the year, I am starting to think about my annual letter for 2021 and how wrong my predictions were for 2022. That inflation came out of nowhere, didn’t it!? Nevertheless, I will have some great learnings to share for my 2022 Investor Letter.
