Getting Through Fear, Ending the Year Strong, and Great Investor Substacks

Alrighty! I am back in the blog writing saddle! I was just not moved to write at all last week. America’s lead probably influenced me not to work between Thanksgiving and Christmas. No excuses anymore! Let’s do this!

I have been in heavy reflection mode recently over the last year. Of course, this is because I have been working on my annual LP Dinner presentation, which is tonight. But, if I were to channel my inner Bill Gurley, I would echo a common quote “Investing is F’ing Hard.”

Over 500 deals with a plan of deploying $3M. I have deployed $0 dollars so far in 2022. But there is a silver lining: I believe I will be going under the term sheet with a target company by the end of this week ?.

The news is terrifying now – bonuses being cut, layoffs outside of tech, and significant redemptions on real estate funds. The markets have already destroyed most of my personal book, so now it is time to not live in fear but look for opportunity. Onwards.

A new emerging manager came to my office last week to discuss how to get started in venture capital. They asked for a list of substacks and blogs to help them get started. I might as well share the resources here as well to anyone that wants to enjoy them.
